So I want a fun bike to commute with around town and nearby cities. I'm 6'0 160 lbs. I'm wondering what CC bike would be best for my circumstances? I would also like a bike that can be driven from my state CT to Maine without too much issue. It doesn't have to be the optimal bike I understand Shadows are not touring bikes. But if need be I want to be able to ride long distance.
Lots of guys agree with you. But I don't like even the factory position on my VT700C. They are forward enough already and all my weight is on my tailbone. I feel every little bump and larger bumps really hurt. To move them even farther forward for me would make the riding posture unlivable for anything more than a short hop. I much prefer the pegs under me, standard position. But thats just me. I'm old as dirt and am probably a pussy. Lololol.
My 86 VT700C is in excellent shape and I love it. But on the highway I feel unstable compared to my 86 V65 Magna 1100cc. Its heavier and you notice it holds the road better. But NEITHER of those 2 bikes, and I love both, neither can even remotely with my 05 GL1800 Goldwing. It owns the road. The VT700 sized bikes are terrific but what you get in mobility and such does not make up for the fact its sorta unsteady in a crosswind and definetely white knuckles after 80mph. The Goldwing, if you're not careful, will cruise effortlessly at 110 and you won't even notice how fast your going. They call them "road sofas" for a reason. Have fun. Get what you like and enjoy it. I've never had a bad day on a bike!

My 86 VT700 is a 5 speed and is powerful enough to stay in the passing lane and not be overrevving. BUT, its not fun. Not relaxing. I love the bike, but find myself taking sideroads to avoid hwy. Its too light
