Exterior Storage Recommendations

I have a 2020 Pilot Touring and are looking for recommendations on exterior storage options. I have considered a roof rack storage system and a hitch basket but I would like to hear opinions on which option is better as well as what brands to consider.

Cost isn’t necessarily a concern, but I would like to buy something that will last and can be used interchangeably across different vehicles if we get rid of the Pilot.

The primary use would be bags, loose items, coolers, etc. but a potential for skis on occasion, but is not a must.
