Should the battery always be around the halfway area?

Just got my first 2020 insight. Never had a hybrid before. I’m just curious where the battery level should be fluctuating, if anywhere specific. I usually see it fluctuate from 3/4 to 1/4.
Also I noticed when I’m going down hill and braking, is when the charge line gets almost to the bottom of the power band. Does this mean it’s charging most when braking with momentum? Or is it charging most when the line is nearest to the blue part of the rpm’s?
