Hi guys id like to ask a question and excuse my lack of knowledge im not super knowledgeable when it comes to cars i know the basics and common sense stuff. So i recently bought a 2024 honda civic hatchback sport Manual transmission. I know the basics of driving manual but its the first manual Ive ever owned so i don’t have that long term experience with a manual car. So my question is is it safe on the transmission to coast in neutral if i wanna slow down? Lets say im at a 45 mph road on 5th gear or so does it hurt the transmission if i clutch and just flip it into neutral and let it coast? I know the Cons if doing that like having less control over the car and wearing out the breaks faster and Ive been practicing downshifting and higher speeds but i still cant quite seem to get the hang of it and i don’t wanna put unnecessary stress on the clutch and mess it up because i really dont have the money to repair a clutch rn if it fucks up. Im a very casual driver always looking at the side mirrors and trying to be very aware of my surroundings i rarely ever go past speed limit maybe like 5 miles past it at the most and i try to transition every gear as smoothly as i can.
