While looking around online for locally used speakers, I saw following:
- a few KEF C40 pairs for $250 USD
- many older KEF bookshelf speakers
- a ton of Klipsch speakers (there's a pair of RP-5000Fs and 1 RP-500C for $700 USD)
- PB-4000 for $2100
- 3x HSU HC-1 MK2s for $500 USD
- 2x HSU HB-2 MK2s for $200 USD
- and a pair of LS50s for $600 USD
Previously when I posted a similar post, I was told that Klipsch Reference series are terrible. I'm still figuring things out, but I am at a point of information overload so I need some opinions. I'm leaning towards a full KEF setup (see table), or a SVS LCR and KEF surround setup ($5700 USD), or a Klipsch LCR and KEF surround setup (cheapest of the 3 at $4000 USD). I'm also open to other brands.
I'm building a game/home theater area that is 10 ft wide by 12 ft long (see picture). My current max budget is $7000 CAD, but I would prefer to lower that by getting used parts that I could sell at a similar value.
This is gunna be more or less a starter HT at 7.1.4, with the option of getting a second sub later. Ultimately later on I would want to build a 9.2.6 in a 12 ft wide by 24 ft long space either in this space, or the shed out back. But that would be 1-2 years from now.
Here's what I am leaning towards:
Item | Price in CAD | Price in USD | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Denon X3700H | $1553 | $1205 | Store discount |
KEF Q250C Center Channel Speaker | $630 | $490 | Store discount |

KEF Q150 Bookshelf Speakers - Pair | $350 | $270 | Used |

SVS PB 1000 Pro Subwoofer | $1100 | $850 | New |
Total | $6683 | $5180 |
