Gifted a receiver, new house has in-ceiling speakers - What do I do?

Post Body

Hello reddit HT pros! I recently closed on a house and I was excited to learn it has 6 in-ceiling speakers, 4 inside and 2 on the back patio. They have a small panel inside that has speaker wire connections. A friend was planning on getting rid of their old receiver (Onkyo TX-535NR) so instead it was gifted to me. The issue with all this... I have no idea what to do next. Currently planning on getting speaker wire and plugging stuff in to see what happens, but I would prefer to get some advice on how to do this intelligently.

Here's the plan and what I'd like to do, assuming its possible:

  • We will use a projector to feed the room where the receiver and speakers are located
  • Currently do not have any other speakers to add to the setup
  • Use the receiver in conjunction with the projector for surround sound with movies
  • Be able to choose whether the sound output is from the 4 indoor speakers, 2 outdoor speakers, or both
  • Based on research about the unit it appears I can use Spotify directly from it rather than BT to the unit - Does that hurt/help in regards to sound quality?

I think that's it. I can purchase a few things if necessary, but we're not trying to go crazy as we just bought a house.
