Post Body

Hello Folks,

After shadowing this sub for a bit, finally ready to experience some good quality audio. Looking to move away from a soundbar to a 3.1 OR 3.2 system. Trying to follow the rules as much as possible but feel free to call out if I am missing any information.

1) Budget: ~3500 USD

2) What am I looking for?

  • 5.2/7.2 AV Receiver with great audio for both movies and music (not sure if about a separate amp but open to that), Currently looking to start with a 3.1 or 3.2 and then expand if required or depending upon the next budget cycle :)
  • Left and right. Based on the space bookshelves seem the best fit but open to suggestions on towers as well
  • Center channel
  • Sub-woofers (Definitely 1, but possibly 2 depending upon how it would fit into the budget)

3) How will I be using the gear?

  • mid-field for home theater

4) What gear do I own?

  • For my home theater, I just have a basic Yamaha soundbar with a sub
  • Roku Ultra
  • Sony X900F 4k HDR TV

5) What is my source?

  • Got a roku ultra for streaming
  • Phone (spotify, tidal)
  • Will be getting a PS5 or Xbox and blu-ray
  • At some point, want to try a turn table but not going to be now

6) What material will I be using the gear for?

  • Movies, Music & Console Games (I need something that works for music and movies predominantly)

Below are some of the options I am thinking about now based on the deals going on and reviews. I am looking to make a decision tomorrow if possible to make avail of the cyber monday deals. Appreciate some honest feedback from the folks here as well as any other recommendations. I can start the research from scratch.

  1. Receiver: Sony STR-DN 1080, Yamaha 2080/3080, Sony
  2. Sub: HSU Research VTF-2 MK5 Or SVS SB-2000 (Open to suggestions here)
  3. L-R, Center (3.0)
    1. Cheapest: Polk S15 Bookshelf, Polk S35 Center
    2. Middle Tier: Monolith THX-265B (Monoprice), Monolith THX-365C center
    3. High End:
      1. Aperion Audio Verus III bookshelf & center channel
      2. Klipsch RP-8000F (Tower), Klipsch RP-504c/500c/600c center
