Hello!
I've recently bought a Nvidia Shield to stream movies (mainly 1080p) from a Windows 10 machine.
Because I couldn't get the Plex client to recognize my Plex server regardless of what I have tried (I have 1 router and 1 router as an access point in between), I switched to Kodi. With Kodi I had no problems seeing the PC (via SMB or even UPnP when I eliminated the second router).
While I am content with this solution, I wonder if there are any disadvantages in using Kodi instead of Plex. I find it important that the decoding of the movie is done on the windows machine, because it has greater processing power. Does Kodi do this? I've heard Plex does this. Are there any other important features where Plex has an advantage over Kodi?
Thank you for your help!
