Sound diffusers

I think I understand the point of them. Take sound and break it up then redispurse that sound. Could someone explain their benefit in a HT or share a highly recommended YouTube video that would explain them in greater detail. I’ve just added x3 24x48 foam board panels but I am debating whether I add more acoustic foam board or to get some diffusers. Thanks!
