Organizing for the upcoming season
Post Body

I’ve been homesteading for about 6 years now, and every December I think to myself “this is the year I get everything planned out on paper” haha. But then I don’t even know where to begin! I’m on 2.5 farmable acres and 2.5 acres of maple woods. (Yes I’m tapping soon, weather permitting !) I have about 5 raised beds and really great soil. I do till with a rototiller, because witches grass roams through the property (along with many other invasives). the invasive poison ivy has gotten much worse these past few years. I am mainly just growing produce, i have chickens, soon to incorporate some ducks.

the farmable land has many black walnut trees. I think their tannins have been giving me some soil chemistry problems in the areas they proliferate.

I’d say 35% of the property is shaded. I do not have a fancy irrigation set up, just some sprinklers.

I guess I’m just rambling now, trying to share some info to create a visual for scale/direction. I have the season down well enough, such as the growing schedules, as well as what I will grow. It’s committed to my memory for the most part. I know my materials and some free resources.

I’d like to be more efficient with my time now to maximize what I can do later. I am researching, but find myself overwhelmed with the amount of tabs in my browser, lol

I wonder, what’s your favorite way to attack the season? Where do you start your plan? Do you have any resources or pre-made materials to share? Many thanks
