My husband homeschools our daughter, who will be 6 in January and is in kindergarten.
I wonder how much “free time” is normal during the day and whether she’s getting enough stimulation. I’m on maternity leave so I’m getting more of a look of what goes on. On Monday and Wednesday she attends a co-op (science based) from 10-2. On Monday after co-op she goes to gymnastics and on Wednesday she goes to dance. On Tuesday from 10:30-12 she attends a reading class, then from 3:45-4:30 she does martial arts. Thursday she does a very unstructured art class from 12:30 until she goes to martial arts at 3:45. Friday she has a math tutor at 11:30 to 12:30.
My husband will do some curriculum with her for about a half hour 2-3 mornings a week. He seems to watch a lot of tv during the other downtime, and leaves her to her own devices. Before starting homeschool, I expressed that I didn’t believe farming our almost all of her education was homeschooling.
She seems really bored during the time she isn’t at activities. I understand the value of independent play and she does play on her own a lot. I should also add that her kindergarten curriculum was way too easy so we did an assessment and determined she should have 1st grade curriculum, which we received last week and still seems very easy.
Do her days seem “off” or normal? Thanks so much for any input!
