I just upgraded from 4.5" studio monitors to 8" studio monitors and I'm feeling ...underwhelmed?
Post Body

I main reason I wanted to upgrade was so I could hear low-end bass better for my mixes. That, and I make bass-heavy EDM, so I figured it would help.

And although I think I can hear the bass properly (perhaps for the first time), I guess what I've realised is how little the bass actual stands out? For some reason, I was imagining being blown away in my seat by the bass response, but even in bass heavy songs, it's really not that prominent in terms of what you're hearing. It's just this lowish hum, not my entire room shaking in fear. This was based in the assumption that the bass would be louder, but actually it's just clearer, which makes sense.

I guess this is more of a reality check for me, rather than a complaint against the 8" studio monitors.

And maybe part of it is that these studio monitors (Yamaha HS8) are actually more accurate than what I had before (Presonus E4.5) so I'm actually clearly hearing what these songs are actually supposed to sound like from a flat perspective, as opposed to the (relatively) colored response I had before?

Anyway, sorry for the rant! Just found it interesting.
