Gas log lighter installed with no gas line

I bought a house in Texas that has a wood burning fireplace and a gas log lighter is installed. What has me puzzled is that there is no gas service to the home. Any idea why they may have done this and if there is any way for me to use it? Maybe with a propane tank somehow?
