We bought a house with a high level of silica in the water. The previous homeowners weren't good about cleaning, so the shower glass, appliances, and countertops are all permanently damaged by silica. (I have tried all the cleaning hacks both professional and TikTok, none of them work.)
All of our systems have been serviced since we bought the house and were found to be in perfect working order. The person who checked our water softener ran a bunch of tests and pretty much said "in this area...sometimes it be like that." It looks like the fix for this is a reverse osmosis filter, which for the whole house we were quoted $18,000. We're planning on getting one of these for the fridge anyway and DIYing it since our water and ice taste funny, but is there really no other way to correct this issue?
