This last year, I inherited 10 acres of liveable land from my grandparents. My wife and I both in the mid-20s, enjoy the property, and have been thinking of using the VA builder loan to build a house out on it. We have average credit both low 700s and work full-time. while I also receive VA compensation, so affording the home and taxes in more than manageable. We just aren't sure if we want to commit to homeownership. What forgotten expenses usually come with homeownership? Is now truly a time, or should we wait? Any advice is appreciated.
Updated plan after a few hours of discussion with the wife. Posting for more or less, if people can pinpoint holes, I'm not seeing. We came up with a 5 year goal and 10 year goal for the property. In five years, we would like to be living on the property via mobile home. There are some things that need to get done before that is set, and they follow in order of which to be done
.Survey done of the property. I have mineral rights and also want to know what locations would be best to build on. The next step is to have a road built from the main property road, then have septic and well-built power lines set. Then, a storm shelter as the property is in oklahoma. To help fund this, my older cousin who inherited the house but less land has already hinted on buying a few acres. I figured I could go without 2. Then, eventually build the home within 10. Oklahoma doesn't have property tax on veterans with 100% VA rating, so I need to see how taxes would look cause I don't know if that's just property altogether or certain things. Thank you for the advice given and for helping me realize I don't need to just rush in.
