Was I scammed?
Post Body

So, I'm not homeless, but I saw someone who might be homeless online. We both live in the United States so preferably the people who reply are from the United States and currently live here.

We met on Snapchat and be said his mom died and he sold everything basically to give her the funeral she wanted, which left him homeless. I tried everything I can to make sure he's okay, but I only worked a part time job with a "just barely over federal minimum wage" job.

Mind you I only know him online, but he did send a video a few times when we first met and he didn't look super healthy. He looked underweight and had bad dental health. He posted it to his Snapchat

The first time I remember him asking for money was for a suit, and it was well above what I can afford. He wanted it I think for his mom's funeral (this was a few months ago). He wasn't happy when I said I can't afford it, but I can send money for food and water. He said he wouldn't eat or drink until he can buy the suit (that didn't last long obviously, he's alive).

I did tell him to go to a homeless shelter, and he did, but he soon left it because he didn't like it or something (I don't remember, this was months ago). There were issues, definitely, but I thought it would be better than nothing (maybe I'm wrong hence why I'm here asking homeless people).

He then broke a bone when he fell off the steps of a bus and developed gangrene. He said it was $80 for a boot, or to amputate. Wet gangrene and gas gangrene are fatal, but dry gangrene isn't always fatal I think, but the doctor said either to pay $80 for a boot and medication, or to get the leg amputated. This was months ago and he's still alive.

Also at some point he said his phone was stolen but he can access PayPal (maybe through a public or library computer, I'm not sure. It doesn't need two factor authentication if you turn it off).

Thoughts?
