I have a DS410j that I got from someone here to learn about NASes with. I love everything about it, except that it’s sloooow. It’s an 800MHz single-core, and the maximum throughput I can get when copying files is 25Mb/s on a non-encrypted volume and 5MB/s on an encrypted volume. CPU maxes out when copying to non-encrypted, though it doesn’t max out when copying to encrypted for some reason. I think maybe an encryption co-processor might be the bottleneck there.
Anyway, I’m looking for a small step up from that. I don’t need video transcoding or anything spectacular, I’d just like the CPU to no longer be the bottleneck when copying files.
Edit: My budget is around $200 give or take.
