So for context, I run a small game-hosting startup and due to a recent move to a bigger space we migrated everyone over to our USEast location and decided to completely revamp the USWest hardware. USEast will get the same treatment about a month after Comcast finishes building out the 10G capable fiber line I ordered (starting with 1G symmetrical service though).
This is what I've done so far:
Upgraded from a 1Gbps-capable Mikrotik CRS326-24F-2S to a 10G-capable Mikrotik CRS317-1G-16S
All servers are connected to the switch via twinax for the most cost-effective and ping-friendly experience possible. The Frankenrouter and Kracken1 builds have their connections doubled-up and bonded.
Primary Router Build (Frankenrouter):
- Ryzen 5600G, 16GB DDR4 3200, 256GB NVME, 2X Twin Intel X520 10G SFP Network Cards
- Ubuntu 22.04 Server minimal configured as a router
- Notable software so far: Librenms, Teleport, Librenms, Croudsec, iperf, rsyslog, etc
- Anyone got any recommendations for DDOS protection?
Primary Datacenter Node Build (USWest):
- Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4 3200, 256GB Primary NVME 1TB NVME for VMs 1TB SATA for Auxillary Servers
- Wings-daemon managed Docker containers nested in Ubuntu 22.04 server VMs on a Proxmox Baremetal
Datacenter Node 1 Build (USWest1):
- Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4 3200, 256GB Primary NVME 1TB NVME for VMs 1TB SATA SSD for Auxillary Servers
- Wings-daemon managed Docker containers nested in Ubuntu 22.04 server VMs on a Proxmox Baremetal
Rackmount 4U Backup Server (Kracken1):
- Ryzen 5600X, 16GB DDR4 3200, 256 Primary NVME 4X 2TB SATA SSD using ZFS
- 1X twin-SFP Intel X520
- Proxmox Backup on the baremetal
Things to do:
- Deploy all needed software and run stress tests
- Add 3 more Datacenter Nodes (USWest machines)
Kracken-1 First Backup Server being built
Bonded 10G SFP Connections via Twinax
Made sure to get the SNMP module for the UPS
