Hi all,
Posting my *future* logical network diagram for any feedback/comments. This is a planning document for me as many of my services are currently residing on my main PC and eating up valuable RAM/CPU time. I don't think anything is particularly unique here, but maybe it will inspire someone else to update their diagram. I feel like most people tend to conflate wiring diagrams with logical diagrams, which can definitely make a diagram messier and harder to interpret. I've focused largely on the logical view for this diagram. Once everything is wired up, I will put up a wiring diagram.
For a general overview, there are 5 major VLANs, each with a different purpose. Home - all of my basic devices such as PCs/Laptops/games that I can expected to be updated relatively regularly. Skynet - any home automation devices (minus security-related devices) that I have no idea how long they will be updated or if they are secure. Services - all of the network services / applications that are used throughout the network. Netman - Network management VLAN, all managed switches, routers, and controllers. Guest - any connections to the guest WiFi.
I'm currently debating about how to set-up the servers on the Services VLAN, so any feedback on that would be welcomed. Each of the servers have dedicated hard drives (2x600GB) that I was planning to use for OS / VM storage. I've got a 16-bay JBOD unit that attaches via SAS. My current thought is to run that to the DL380 and run FreeNAS on it to provide storage to the rest of the network. Then run proxmux on the two DL360s to provide services that utilize the FreeNAS storage (such as Plex).
