Hello HomeServer!
Building up my own home server is something I've been wanting to do for a few years now and I've finally come into the opportunity to do it. I've recently come into a PC from a relative that I want to turn into a server for my own personal / educational use. Here is the parts list;
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Kormir/saved/#view=XkNWt6
The main things I want to use it for in the first instance are;
- Storage
Things like backing up my archive of photos/videos and starting up a media collection for Plex.
- VM's
I've recently just started working as a software developer and we use Virtualbox / Docker. I want to get more familiar and comfortable with these tools.
- Dipping my toe into learning Linux.
What do you think of the system for the things I mentioned above?
I have 2 1tb HDDs I'm also planning on putting in it to get me started, though one is quite old. I will probably use Unraid.
Also open to hearing some decent upgrades for any of these parts too. I'll probably start to look upgrading it in the new year.
Thanks a lot!
