So, my boss throws away expensive server and networking equipment constantly and he allows me to take what I want. I have an enormous collection of stuff now that I don't know what to do with. My intention was to use this R630 as a home media server. Overkill? The problem is this: I have 8 drives installed and only 4 of them are "allowed" to be used. I just installed windows server 2022 eval, since I'm not familiar at all with Linux. My daily driver is an iMac. I hate windows but haven't learned Linux at all. Anyway, the 4 drives that are "blocked" are almost nearly the same drives as the 4 that currently have windows server installed, but the blocked drives have a different block size. The ones that are running have a 512 block size and the bad ones are 520. Is there any way on God's earth that this can be fixed so I can use all 8 drives in a raid configuration? The backplane has sas cables that lead directly to the PERC H730 and I don't have any other way to attach those drives. I know I'm out of my league with all this, I just wanted to have a home media server with this fancy corporate equipment, lol
Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to have to purchase ANOTHER quartet of sas drives that have a 50/50 chance of working.
