I want to figure out a way to let others use my PC - friends and family.
The intended use requires me to be able to spin a VM whenever someone needs it. The VM should be pre-configured with the approved software, so that the users don't have to install anything. Additional per user storage would be separate and needs to be mounted depending on who will use the VM.
I am a Linux user, so the easiest thing would be for me to keep running my personal Linux as a host. But I am open to using windows as a host if it matters. I also learned that I can use proxmox as the host - not sure if it is an overkill in my case.
I need only 1 concurrent VM if I am using the Ubuntu host. If I use proxmox, I need only two concurrent VMs - one for my personal use and one for sharing with others.
This is way beyond anything I have done, but I can learn if pointed in the right direction.
For completeness, I have a intel i7-8700. 16 GB ram that I plan to upgrade to 64, and 2TB NvME.
At some point I want to get a case that allows me to stuff 12 HDDs but for now, my 2 HDDs are enough for me.
