First Server, Poweredge R710 running unRAID, help w/ accessing from other computers
Post Body

Hey everyone,

I am rather new to all of this I guess would be considered sysadmin stuff. I am just getting into servers, networking, & NAS related topics. I have recently acquired a R710 I bought 4 1TB 7.6k SAS harddrives and just installed unRAID as the OS. I did this only because the person who had the server before me had it running unRAID so it was already setup as far as the H200i card which from my research I think was in IT mode so I was not able to setup HDD for RAID. I have got unRAID up and running and have all the HDD setup I believe and I believe it is reading all the DIMMs as well. My question is now firstly I am able to see the server from my Windows desktop but when I click on the shortcut under File Explorer -> Network -> R710 it asks for Windows Credentials? I did some research and was suggested to turn off LAN network password under control panels and I did that but it still is asking for the Windows Credentials? This somewhat leads to my 2nd question how do I transfer files to the server and access the files from outside my LAN? --- I have some background with Linux and CLI but am still new to it, and am trying to learn more about servers and setting them up, using them, and just overall information so if anyone could suggest any books or resources for this that would be appreciated as well.

Thank you,

Sufficient Lurker
