Hello, I've just been approved to move into a small one-story, 750 sqft house in a West Side (competitive af!) neighborhood of Los Angeles. I'd like to hear some good tips to secure a small house. While this neighborhood is going through a massive gentrification, it's still LA :). I've lived in the area for 5 years and love it, but this is the first time I'll be living on ground level without barred windows and without the added security of an apartment complex. Although you typically do not see any barred windows in this area.
The house has windows on nearly every wall, a front door and a backdoor. The house is fenced in, but anyone could easily jump over it. I remember deadbolts on at least the front door.
We have a small 14lb dog, that will probably bark at an intruder, but is pretty useless otherwise. I would also be concerned that she'd trip motion sensors when we're gone.
I also own a .40cal Glock. Reliable, but also very powerful for an urban environment. I'll be taking my gf to the range so she can get a feel the kick.
What would be some good options for us? Just recently saw Simply Safe as an alarm option/deterrent. And I have a handgun for protection. Anything else we can do?
