Hello,
I am looking at setting up a home automation software system on a virtual machine. I have a few physical servers running ESXi and a more than powerful enough network. Currently, I have the following:
Google Home Mini's, Google Home Hub, Nest Thermostat, Nest Guard, UniFi cameras, some older Wemo smart plugs, SmartThings hub, and a Schlage Z wave lock. I also have a Pixel 3XL, so as you can see a lot of Google products. The plan is to fully integrate GE Enbrighten Z wave plus switches, dimmers and fan controllers down the road. I use to do a lot of electrical work, and I still do a lot of low voltage electrical work so if I need to do anything custom I most likely can.
I am looking for the best software system that is capable with tying into most of the existing equipment, but also handle custom events. I want to be able to also hook it into IFTTT and Google Assistant if possible. My whole ecosystem is Google products so something that handles that ecosystem (Google Assistant commands) would be a plus.. I am currently using IFTTT for custom Google Assistant commands, so even using IFTTT as a middle man between the software and the device is fine. I am a programmer and sysadmin so setting up custom handlers and/or systems is not a worry for me, plus I have the resources.
I have only ever set up openHAB around 4-5 years ago, and that was torn down when I moved out and never re setup; because of this, I have zero idea what the best solution for my use case at the time would be.. I just bought this house around a month ago, so I am slowly integrating everything. Now that all the physical work is done, it is time to do the virtual. I am doing some research as I am posting this, but I know that people here are a lot more up to date than I am. I appreciate any help you may be able to give!
