Detecting my doorbell with a microphone

Post Body

Hello! I am in an apartment complex with some sort of old school doorbell. I would love to get notified when it is rung and I am not sure if attaching to the wires is an option. My thought was then to just have a microphone connect to my raspberry pi to detect this but as it turns out mics for that are expensive-ish considering the software would take me a bit to write and run consistently.

The thought is a microphone placed near where the buzzers speaker is in the house should be able to fairly easily detect when the doorbell is pressed.

I guess I am surprised to not see more people asking for this. Is there a reason this is a bad idea? Surely it was tried.
