Recently Rewatched some Brendan scenes like where he kills Danny and honestly it just made me wonder why are the other soaps so shit when it comes to their Gangsters?

like outside of Hollyoaks and River City all the other main Brit soaps just suck at these kinda characters Coronation Street's are mostly laughable Emmerdale's are completely laughable they haven't had a decent Gangster character since the early 2000s.

and EastEnders is the worst of all since they try and do these sorta characters probably more than any other soap but most of them are just cringe people who's Barks are far worse than their Bites.

outside of the odd exception like Jack Dalton Dennis Rickman Aiden Maguire and Ravi most EE criminal characters are cringe jokes tbh the writers seem to think their main hardman Phil can be a dangerous unpredictable Gangster character who we should see as capable of murder even tho they've gone out of their way to never let him intentionally take a life in the past.

and its not even like its because they want Phil to remain the kinda anti hero who will do bad things but would never willingly cross the line of taking another life because the writers have him attempt to do in on many occasions but they always write it so he's conveniently stopped.

meaning Phil exists on this awkward inbetween where he isn't actually a Gangster Hardman character who has proven himself to be capable of killing when push comes to shove but he also isn't a character who actively chooses to not cross that line as part of a moral code.

so Basically its just shit writing and it Really makes me wonder why they can't just follow Hollyoaks example? for as many problems as this show has its always known how to do these types of characters the best like with Warren and Brendan and Trevor and Fraser etc etc.

as it is most soap Gangsters outside of HO just come across as cringe school bullies as opposed to fearsome criminals.
