Visiting Holland for the first time as a family vacation in a couple weeks. Is there any recommendations for things to do or places to eat/drink?

We will be hanging out and around the lake for sure.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Lemonjellos and Cafe 205 for coffee, New Holland Brewery for lunch/dinner. Mizu if you like sushi, Mezcal if you like Mexican, Waverly Stone for an elevated Gastropub feel, Butch's is great for an upscale dinner. Obstacle 1 if you want to have a romantic evening of cocktails without the kids, Readers World and Bluestocking Books are both great independant bookstores to find your next beach read. See the Holland Arts Council for some beautiful local art. Thursday nights downtown they close off a street to showcase street performers. Bowerman's blueberry farm is cute, Tanglewood winery is very cool. Visit the farmers market downtown on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Also check out Saugatuck because it's close, super cute, and arty.

I'd avoid Curraugh due to slow service and Hops 84 due to rude service. edit: I've had weird experiences with both staff and patrons at Hops. Weird glares, being ignored by staff, hosts being super rude. It's just my personal experience! But note that we are an alternative couple in a conservative town, and more nuclear type families may have better experiences there!.

Holland is super cute and there's a lot to do! Hope you and your fam have a blast!

I've frequently had weird experiences there! I should clarify more that it's wierd vibes, overall? Both staff AND patrons. I've had one fantastic waiter there once...but every other instance, the hosts have been rude, the overall vibe of the place has been super off, we get ignored by staff, stared at my patrons, and it just feels uncomfortable. I've worked service jobs so I totally get how rushes go and that's not the issue, it's just....weird that every time we've tried to go, we get treated badly (and we've given the place many chances!)

ETA: I'm not trying to play "that card", but my partner is a tattooed long haired cis man who often gets mistaken for a trans man, and I am pink haired and alternative. While we dress appropriately for the restaurant of course, I kind of wonder if Hops is jsut a more conservative spot. It's not the first time we've had some of that weirdness in Holland!
