People say MTs are great in SP because the AI will never make a unit with enough piercing to counter them. How high can AI piercing go? From what I’ve seen the most they do is put in an AT support company. Thinking about how feasible it is to just add a HTD or two to a 14/4 and have space marines with an armored buff, but need to know what targets to hit with armor
Yeah I ran a few games, and against anyone with any industrial capacity, they have support ATs and enough piercing to make a heavy tank worthless. The notable exceptions are China, where (playing as Japan) you can just build up and start the war when you start getting provocation events in late ‘38 without the Marco Polo debuffs, and France, who must be hard coded to not build AT.
Japan is where I got the idea, the space marines work super well there and can set you up for a better game by allowing you to build IC and have a collaboration government entirely in place before crushing China. Looks like the strategy should stay there, though.

In SP you are better off with Medium Tanks because the AI won’t produce divisions capable of piercing them, so you get the same benefit and more speed and less IC. In multiplayer, if you go medium and your opponent goes heavy, they will stonewall you; they will pierce your divisions and you won’t pierce theirs.
