Invading the U.S. is rarely interesting.

Post Body

When playing as Germany, once the Soviets and the British have surrendered the game is effectively over. The largest, most powerful country in the game remains untouched and an ocean away but conquering it is so straightforward that it's basically uninteresting.

  • The fact that Canada can be annexed as part of a British surrender is a part of the "problem" IMO. It basically removes the puzzle of crossing the Atlantic and staging an invasion against an AI that could be concentrated against you; the army you used against the Soviets winds up on the northern border and the war is quickly over.

  • The British Navy is the other "problem". If you defeat the British you wind up a force so powerful the US Navy doesn't pose a real threat. You have total control of the sea and crossing is straightforward.

I think it's a bit of a missed opportunity, as late-game combat in the continental US could be a lot of fun. The US adopting a soviet-style scorched earth defense would make for interesting gameplay, especially given the limited avenues for approach on the west coast.
