How to recover from failed auto-start INS align?

I usually start hot, but depending on the server or mission I start cold. I’m not interested in getting into a discussion about hot vs cold starts or manual vs auto.

I’m using auto-start and sometimes for a variety of reasons the INS will fail to align (F18 usually, sometimes F16).

In this specific case, how do I recover? Turning the INS to off and back to CV or GND doesn’t seem to work - the timer on the HSI doesn’t count up, just flashes and the STORED HDG Align vanishes from the HSI.

Other than jump out, jump back in or auto-start all over again, does anyone have a faster fix?
