Gyro gun sight

Is there ever any reason to use gyro gun sight as opposed to fixed one against anything but aerial targets?
I'm trying to go through L-39's Kursant campaign, and the instructor wants me to use gyro gun sight against ground targets which, so far, is only vomit-inducing...
