‘tempered expectations’ is basically r/Hoggit’s motto, and while i take great issue with what i feel is unjustified vitriol often sent towards ED and its folks, over time i have learned why tempered expectations matter. performance has been an issue for me since i first took interest in DCS. i am and have always been simply captivated by VR and flatscreen just doesn’t really interest me now that i’ve seen the mountaintop. a year ago, i couldn’t play at all. over time i tuned my VR performance, found little mods, and eventually got to a place where i could play very low intensity training missions at decent enough frame rates to not get dizzy. poor performance still ended many a session with friends, but at least i got to fly even a little.

this new update is like a brand new game. the load times alone blow my mind. where i used to have to wait with my head still for five minutes else i get terrible stuttering and desync on loading into a jet, i’m now just there and ready to start up or whatever. where i used to have to turn my head slowly else i cause massive lag spikes that hurt my head, now i just turn my head and see what i should see. almost no stuttering, almost no jumpiness. it’s amazing, and i could not be more pleased.

fantastic work on the developer’s part, and props to the community for showing ED the no-qualifiers gratitude that i feel they rightly deserve today.

finally, a solemn spring forward to all those who observe. may your naps be fruitful
