I've gotten the bug to start playing hockey, and being a goalie. I'm not sure what got it going, but I've pretty much made up my mind that I'm going to do it. Yeah, I'm already 37, and no I know it's not too late, but never having payed I guess I have other questions. I did read the guide and pretty much anything I can find about becoming a goalie, but there's some parts that I just can't really find answers to.
If there was a couch to goalie program, I'd just sign up for that if there was, but since I can't find one my plan is to do this: Sign up for Learn to Skate program (still deciding on which facility to use, so anyone in South Florida who wants to add some input, I'm open to suggestions), and do this for a while until I can do....? I think this is where I start to lose track of what to do. What skills should I work on, besides not falling on my ass? Should I be starting off in goalie skates? I assume the rink won't have any for rent, but if I plan on going down this road anyway should I just pick up a cheap-ish pair to start off with? I don't want to pick up bad habits early on.
I know there's a few Adult Learn to Play programs that happen down here too, not sure when the next one is getting started, but I figured I should not be working on basic skating while I'm doing that, but that would be the next step I assume.
Open to other suggestions and input as well. Happy new year all!
