A few people have asked about painting some sections on goalie pads. I’ve done 3 different sets now along with a blocker and trapper and have all had good results.
The key is to use leather paints and to only do sections that do not make a lot of contact with the ice/ ground.
The next thing is to ensure you’ve removed the clear top coat before painting if you want it to properly adhere. Angelus paints offers a deglazer which works awesome. But you can also use rubbing alcohol.
For me I sometimes use a little of both to save on cost. The I mask around the area I want to do and do 3-4 coats. Curing with a heat gun after each coat. Allowing 15 min or more between coats.
Once that is done I use their clear coat they sell and do at least 2 coats, using a heat gun after each coat. I also tell goalies to wait at least 24hrs after the last coat before wearing them.
The Vaughn V6 pads have at least 80 games on them for ball hockey and the inner black section that was painted has barely any wear. If you have questions at all feel free to ask!
