So I found my old hockey card collection from when I was a kid and decided to buy a couple of new packs just to start collecting again in my old age.

But there's so much about this stuff I don't know. Like, what are the numbers in the upper left corner on the back of the cards? What are the different card types (for example, I got a Scott Laughton, Teachers Pet card) are some types more valuable? How do I know if there's any value in my old cards? Not looking to sell stuff, just fun to know a bit about how all of this works!
