Just looking at the first two days of playoffs, there have been very few goals scored in the eight games played:
The most goals scored by a team in one game is *four** (Detroit vs. Phoenix and Nashville @ Anaheim)
The most goals scored by both teams combined in a single game is *six** (Detroit vs. Phoenix)
There have been *four shutouts** (that's half the games!), and three teams manged to score only one goal (Buffalo's one-goal effort resulted in a win)
*Only four teams have managed to score more than two goals in their game
Only 27 goals have been scored: that's *3.38 goals per game** for both teams combined; that averages to 1.7 goals scored per team per game. To compare, the highest-scoring team in the league -- The Canucks -- averaged 3.15 goals per game in the regular season.
Do you guys expect the trend to continue? What's the reasoning behind the low-scoring games? Is it the goaltending, or is it just a coincidence? And most importantly, do you guys like all these low-scoring, seemingly strategic games?
