I was REALLY bored at work and pulled together quick numbers to look at teams and opponents for back to back games in 2014-2015. I was curious to to see any trends and figured I would share my findings. I counted the second game in two nights as the "b2b" game.
Data is here (It's not pretty)
Some facts:
Most b2b games: Buffalo (19)
Least b2b games: Winnipeg, Calgary, Los Angeles (9)
Most b2b games vs. single opponent: Boston (4 vs. Montreal)
Most games played against teams playing in b2b games: Detroit, New York Islanders (22)
Least games played against teams playing in b2b games: Columbus, Arizona, San Jose (8)
Most b2b games against division opponents: Carolina (10)
Least b2b games against division opponents: Chicago (2)
The East played an average of 15.9 b2b games each. The West played an average of 11.1.
42.9% of b2b games were within the division
67.7% of b2b games were within the conference
I might go back at the end of the season and see how final scores fit into this.
