Sorry for the long absence/silence everyone. A lot has changed since I left school. I'm (fairly) gainfully employed and I've been cleaning my room and getting rid of all the stuff my mother left behind as well as consolidating a lot of the stuff I kept in the basement. Although the room doesn't look perfect, I haven't entirely cleaned because I decided to repaint and add an accent wall. I've installed a couple wall mounted bookshelves to free more drawer space and I've been looking around for a decently priced vanity with storage to make extra space in/on my dresser.
I worked on a good system in which my Dad and I handle my grandmother's monetary issues (i.e. bills, ect.) since she's becoming more and more forgetful these days, and we have gotten the fridge and oven replaced as well as the gotten the sinks in the bathrooms fixed/up and running. Additionally, my clean-when and as I can - method seems to have made an impression on my brother. Although he doesn't totally help out with general cleaning tasks, he has decided that he wants to clean out his room to make more space/make it seem less cluttered. In a strange way, cleaning has become cathartic - every time I feel really bad about myself or I can feel my depression getting bad, I clean. In a weird way, it empties my mind, and though it makes me very tired and sweaty afterwards (there's a lot of cleaning to be done still, but it's a process), I also feel super accomplished.
I'm happy with the setup in my room, and what it will become (the walls, the lights I'll be putting up, and other decor). And I can't wait to make this place my little oasis. On a side note, my grandmother keeps giving me things from her hoard because she thinks it will 'look nice.' I end up trashing a lot of the stuff on the sly, but I do love her and appreciate the thought. It can be done everyone. Even if it seems super stressful and impossible at first. You can do it, I believe in you.
