Post Body

I just graduated from college and moved back into my familial home on Friday (there are four of us here, my father, brother, grandma, and myself). My Grandma has health problems and clinical depression (not diagnosed officially, but her doctor has been trying to prescribe her something "for her mood" for years now. She doesn't leave the house and barely leaves her room which has primarily been the case since the spring of 2015. She is a hoarder and no one else on the house (my Dad or brother) say anything about it because they're hoarders too (although less severely than her). My Dad wants me to act as a live in caretaker from my grandmother since he's not home most of the time, but since I've spent a lot of time, I've noticed a few things, some of which I have noticed and mentioned before. We have three couches standing vertically next to each other in the dinning room (next to a table that seats eight) and I'm fairly certain that mice, and a LOT, live in there. Although I wanted to start eating better, there are mouse droppings all on the counter and stove area as well as in the bowls and tupperware we have. In addition to this, the basement and much of the rest of the house has a problem with spiders and centipedes. I've talked to my Dad about this and cried many a time because we shouldn't live like this. I have explained to him that I think it is because of the state of the house that my Grandmother is as sick as she is (it wasn't this bad before the house became a seedbed for dust, dog hair, and vermin), but he always says that he needs time to wrap his head around things.

My grandmother hates having strangers in the house, but I know I can't clean all of this by myself for fear of sickness (I've already gotten many sinus infections from even minor attempts at cleaning). I don't have the money to move out and since I'm the only one that my Grandmother talks to or comes out of her room for anymore, I can't/don't want to leave, but the house is driving me INSANE and making me sick (sinus infections galore). I'm at a loss and I don't know what to do. Any advice would be appreciated. Signed VERY stressed and depressed 23-year-old whose family has a hoarding problem.
