How did you avoid opportunistic infections?

People with a CD4 count under 50: what measures did you take to manage to not get infections while you waited for your count to go up? How long did it take to go above 200? Did you get any infections during that time and how did you notice them and what did you do about them?
I am asking for my sibling.
