First time hitchhiking in 10 days - Iceland's Ring Road/Golden Circle

Post Body

So I've been lurking around Reddit and researching the Internet but wanted to just send an ask out there myself and see what people think - especially any words on hitchhiking! ;) I'm going to Iceland soon and planning my first mini trip involving hitching for rides. I'm excited as I've always wanted to try such a humanizing way of travel and Iceland seems like a place that's easier to get around than others. I'll be in the country 21 August to the 25, so 5 days, 4 nights. Here's my rough itinerary if anyone is interested: - Land at Keflavik airport midnight on Sunday morning, and take a bus (can I buy a ticket right then and there?) into/around Reykjavik center if I can't find anyone who can help with a ride. Then in Reykjavik I'll go to store my luggage at the Tradarkot car park, and also pick up a rented two-Person tent I reserved online at a rental place down the street. After, I'll take the local bus heading South/east (using hitchwiki for most of these details) to the outskirts of town and begin hitchhiking along Route 1 heading south. Here are my destinations along this route I'd like to go to or get off at (sorry for the spelling): Reykjadalur hot spring trailhead by Hveragadi village, Seljalandsfoss and Gljufrabui waterfalls, Skogafoss waterfall, and Reynisfjara beach I will skip a location (like the beach) this first day in order to get to the Vik Camp Grounds by about 7pm, spending the night there, and visit what I missed the next day (Monday) while hitching back on route 1. - On Monday I want to go around the Golden Circle, first stopping at the Gamla Laugin secret lagoon on route 30, then Gullfoss and Geysir (Strokkur). If I can make it to the camp ground next to the lake in Thingvellir by 7pm that'd be great but I saw there is camping at Geysir or Laugarvatn if I'm cutting it close. Then in the morning (Tuesday) I'll visit Thingvellir national park and finally hitch back to Reykjavik where I'll spend my time until my flight leaves Thursday afternoon.

Am I overlooking anything here? Any tips or suggestions? I'm actually okay sticking with a group and changing the plan a little if I'm invited. A few of my concerns are how available bus tickets are when I did not book in advance, getting stuck in a spot/place that's terrible for getting rides, and not having proper padded sleeping for inside my tent (I only have an emergency warmth blanket) Thanks for the read!
