I fell in love with Peruvian history after reading The Last Days of the Incas by Kim MacQuarrie. The story of the fall of the Inca empire, is so fascinating, dramatic, and tragic. It boggles my mind no one has made a film about it that I can find, besides a really questionable movie in the 60s. It has so many vivid characters and events. Francisco Pizarro, his brothers including the psychopath Gonzalo Pizarro, Atahualpa and his brother Huascar, Manco Inca who was originally a puppet but rebelled after the psycho brother mentioned above raped his wife/sister/queen, and came within a hair of driving the Spanish out. But ultimately retreated to the hidden city of Vilcabamba where a guerrilla resistance continued for almost 50 yeare. It's such a rich story, its dying for a high budget film or miniseries that does it justice. There doesn't even seem to be any Spanish language version of this story on film which is so weird to me. If I'm wrong about that I would love to know.
If I win the lottery I'm funding this project.
