I (25f) am sitting here thinking about what Iām going to do for my future.
In 2018, I went and got scans on my hip because I was in pain for a long time. My results below.
āX-RAYS OF THE PELVIS AND RIGHT HIP: The acetabulum appears relatively shallow with an increased acetabular angle on both sides with features suggesting mild bilateral acetabular dysplasia. The hip joints otherwise appear normal with no evidence of osteoarthritis and with preservation of the hip joint space on both sides. There is degenerative sclerosis on the iliac side of both sacroiliac joints suggesting mild osteitis condensans ilii. Degenerative subarticular sclerosis is also noted in relation to the pubic symphysis.ā
I think in 2022 my pain started to ease a lot more , only flaring up every now and then. I started working more, I was happy. Now 2024, I havenāt had a bad flare up in a long time that I forgot how bad it is. Last week I was in so much pain all week. Tuesday-Thursday was the worst of it. Itās eased a lot more now and can walk properly, Iād say a 2/10 discomfort now. Last night thoā¦ I was tossing around in bed trying to find a position I felt the least amount of pain, tossed for 2 hours then got up and had Panadol and nurofen, fell asleep half an hour-an hour later with a pillow under my bottom. Sitting and laying down causes me the most amount of pain. Last nights episode was the worst pain and discomfort Iāve ever felt.
With my hip problem, it flares up whenever it wants. I can have a busy day and it wonāt cause me pain, or a relaxed day and have pain. I never know what Iām gonna get. I havenāt changed my routine, I still do everything Iāve always done. Iāve heard from some people that their pain flares up in winter, which Iām assuming is whatās happening to me because all through summer, I was working hard, but no pain.
Doctors told me years ago that Iāll have to have hip surgery when Iām really old because of the recovery time.
I love my job. This is what I want to do until I retire.. but itās a job where I need to be on my feet and up and down ladders every day. I know ladders arenāt great for this, but when my hip is good, Iām 100% fine..
Im young, doing well mentally and financiallyā¦ but my hip is on my mind. Do I look into getting injections every winter to get me through, and maybe in a few years get surgery? Im going to get another scan done at some stage to check on it all since itās been a long time.
Just looking into the future so I can plan and prepare. Advice or anything welcome.
