Client1 and Client2 are married and jointly see a therapist for the purposes of couples therapy. Neither client has an independent relationship with therapist.
Therapist video records sessions for their own records and professional purposes. Full consent of both clients is given.
A particular moment happened in the session, particularly in an interaction between C1 and the therapist, C1 wishes to better understand and do personal work on. The therapist explicitly states that the concern of C1 is something they need to address personally and will not be addressed in the couples therapy session. Therapist then decides to prematurely end the session for the day.
Client1 requests that the therapist provide them with a copy of the recording directly, or even better, transfer it directly to their individual therapist so that they can do personal work with their personal therapist (as suggested by couples therapist). Couples' therapist refuses, stating that is not their practice policy and will not comply.
Does C1 have any rights to receive a copy of this recording, or have it transferred to their personal therapist?
Edit: it should be noted that this interaction occurred in a state with one party consent law, where only one party to a conversation needs to consent to recording.
