Merrell Moabs, fell apart day 1
Post Body

Hey all!

I wanted to let you know about a diabolical experience I've had with Merrell. What was supposed to be a truly wonderful thruhike (110km through the Arctic Circle along the Swedish Kungsleden Trail), wound up being an awful lot less enjoyable following a glue binding issue with my outersole.

Having owned Merrell boots before, I've found that they fit well without the need to break them in, thus, I'd barely worn these brand new Moabs before hitting the trail. What a mistake that was. On day 1, the outersole disconnected from the shoe, with the glue only holding at the heel and toward the toes. Owing to time constraints, my dad and I continued the hike, patching along the way. With the supplies we had and the kindness of other hikers, we completed the trail; however, owing to many slips, my hip has been injured and my body bruised.

Having returned home, I reached out to Merrell to let them know what happened. Yes, I've already received a refund from the outlet I bought the shoes from, but given the total failure of the shoe and how much it impacted my hike, I figured some level of compensation would be in order. 10% off my next purchase is apparently what is offered following a total collapse of the shoe. Safe to say I won't be redeeming that.

Screw you Merrell.

Tldr; brand new Merrell shoes fell apart on day 1 of hike, 10% off my next purchase was the compensation offered.
