I want to have a go at a long distance hike when COVID is over (I'm thinking 2022!). I've been browsing the obvious - PCT and AT in the USA - but would prefer to tackle a European Long Route. I've done ~200km hikes in Europe and find the constant sketchiness of wild camping manageable but stressful, so I'm not sure I'm up for 6 months of that headache.
Should I give it a go, and hybrid the likely necessary wild camping with hostels and formal campsites and just stomach the extra cost? Or should I try to get a permit for the popular US hikes where I don't have that worry at all?
