How to avoid running into the 5 match rule with a 1 day IBT

I am tasked with running a conference tournament coming up. It is uncertain if we can bracket it as a 12 man tourney based on weights or if we will have to go with a 16 man bracket (17 schools, 15have active programs currently) based on weights.
If I run a 5th/6th place match instead of WB to 3rd, would that eliminate the possibility of someone running into the 5 match rule ?
