TW for talk about crab death-
I had 2 hermits and they were both absolute troopers, they dutifully munched and switched shells before going down for their first molt with me!
Cerabellum went down for her molt, then 4 days later Ebrietas went down. I had high hopes for both of them, especially since they beefed up before going down.
then Brie came up from her molt a few weeks later. They’re both small so I knew it wouldn’t take long. I figured Cera just needed more time.
I’m also moving right now-so I knew i’d have to dig her up soon anyway.
I gave her as much time as I could (about 2 months) and went digging with a horrible gut feeling…Cera didn’t make it through her molt sadly.
Brie is doing wonderfully. She’s been up for about 2 weeks and she’s eaten almost an entire eggshell (along with lots of other food)!
However, I’m pretty broken up about losing Cera. I know there’s nothing I could’ve done-their enclosure meets all of their needs and more. I know that she just couldn’t make it past the maltreatment she experienced before getting to me-but I still adored her and finding her body was heartbreaking.
For my sake and for Brie’s, when should I get another crab? I’m in the process of upgrading her enclosure anyway (yay living in a bigger space!) and don’t plan to get more than 2-4 hermies ever.
Please advise! Thank you all 🖤
