Tilt cover rattles?

I’ve had my aeron for a couple of years now. I purchased it on eBay as new old stock - the seller claimed he had ordered it for his home office but it sat in storage for 10 years instead.
Ever since I’ve had it, it has made a noticeable rattling noise which comes from the tilt cover. The cover itself feels quite loose and I can rattle it by hand too - is this normal? Can I fix it?
EDIT: after removing the top cover, the rattling noise disappears.
